But after a few months, many talks with friends and strangers, complemented by some research I realized it is an issue experienced by many.

The most common way to find a volunteer program in Vienna is through word of mouth. It is high time to take advantage of digital channels! So to make volunteering in Vienna even more accessible, we founded Social Held , an intuitive platform connecting volunteers with volunteering opportunities in Vienna. With just a few clicks, based on your interests, skills, and time commitment you will be matched with the corresponding social engagement.

We have more than twenty various non-profit organizations onboard offering diverse volunteering opportunities. There are classic volunteering projects such as mentoring or buddy programs, but also plenty of more unusual engagements, for example, some organizations are looking for sports teachers or filmmakers willing to donate just a few hours of their time.

Every week we are adding new opportunities. By using the platform volunteers can not only easily find and sign up for the projects, they can also track their social engagement and skills development. Most NGOs actually depend on volunteers to create meaningful change in the communities they serve and it can be hard to find and retain them.

The Social Held was also kind enough to send a short guide on how to find volunteering that fits you — Social Held platform will guide you through as well. First, you should ask yourself why you actually want to volunteer. This way you can figure out what kind of volunteering will be best for you.

Second, how much time can you and want to commit to volunteering? It is up to you how often and how regularly you want to engage. Even one hour can make a difference, but you have to be clear about your commitment from the beginning — it helps not only you but also NGOs to manage their schedule and expectations.
